Funny People

...or the lack there of...

Yes, I know that Judd Apatow is a genius (not really) and Seth Rogen is too (anyone see Observe and report) and now we add Adam "over rated" Sandler and Funny People is going to be the funniest movie of all time!!!!!

Hang on a second!

Knocked Up had its moments but was way too long and dragged in story not once; not twice but many times. Mr. Apatow YOU NEED AN EDITOR! 40 Year old Virgin was probably his best film but Apatow still doesn`t like to cut stuff out. Does he even have an editing process?

What I am trying to say is that Judd Apatow is on his way to being the comedy version of Eli "Hack" Roth. These two are only good and people like their films because they are told to by the media shoving them down their throats. Sorry Judd...its too bad that you can produce better films then you actually direct. Your best film that you had your hands on was Forgetting Sarah Marshall and all you did was front the money...

JCVD

Where have you been Jean Claude Van Damme?!?
Photobucket

We all remember the hits; Hard Target, Universal Soldier, Bloodsport and Kickboxer. But does anyone remember recent Van Damme films like The Shepherd and ... uh...nevermind. I only have extremely crappy recent Seagal films in mind.

At the age of 47 Van Damme has come into his own. JCVD is a no holds barred spotlight on the "muscles from brussels. Van Damme's performance is indeed "oscar worthy" as Time magazine reported. This man really opens himself up and humbles himself in front of you. Of course the story and setting are ficticious but what they surround are Van Damme playing himself and using his own life stories to drive parts of this film.

If you are a fan of Van Damme you have to check this one out. Its the documentary without the documentary. I will admit that I was a huge Van Damme fan in my youth. I haven't seen anything of his in quite some time. I picked JCVD up because I heard it was good from just about every review I read. I loved it! I also love how he really opened himself up for this flick. I will even admit to getting a little teary towards the end when he has a monologue about his life and his many bad decisions.

So Mickey Rourke should have won the Oscar. To hell with the holier than thou Sean Penn. I don't give a blue hell what Spicoli has to say on screen or off so take your award and shut it! Sad thing is my pick for Oscar gold never had the chance. Too bad hollywood has forgotten about ole JCVD.

Random Shite

In no particular order...for Saturday March 7th and Sunday March 8th.

-Watchmen opened to $55.6 mil. Not ridiculous money but I am happy with it. Go see it, it was good.

-Hate the warm weather. Need cold. Yep, I enjoy the cold...sue me!

-Filming a short film next week. I get to be a guy who carries a pair of six shooters! Can you say "I'm here huckleberry; and thats just my game."

Star Trek

HOLY PHOTON TORPEDOS BATMAN!!! Dare I say that Star Trek may finally be dubbed "cool"?
From the looks of this trailer this could be the case. I was extremely skeptical before today but now I am extremely pumped to see this film! We have handed ole JJ another classic television series/movie franchise which he excelled in (Mission Impossible 3) hopefully he will repeat himself.

And to answer your question, yes...I can quote Star Trek II:The Wrath of Khan from start to finish. Does this make me a trekkie/trekker? Suppose so.

Battlestar Galactica

You know... if all the seasons could have been as damn good as the final episodes have been the entire run of the show would have rocked. Now I am not saying, by any means, that Battlestar Galactica hasnt been good I am merely saying that there were times where it dragged a bit. Add in some extremely depressing situations that a majority of the characters found themselves in and you can see my point. Still, the stories were rich and the acting superb. There were certainly many reasons to watch this show.

Case in point...this is one of the "bad guys"...

Top that off with some real complex, epic and deep stories and you have had quite the sci fi expirience!

O lordy lordy.

Yep, I saw it. Watchmen. I saw it and thought it was damn good. My hat is off to the creators of the film because they did a fine job of of cramming, a sort of bloated graphic novel, into a film. Come on! Yes, I said bloated. You can't tell me that when you read it, if you did, you didn't see several areas where the heavy story became slightly annoying. Example: ok we understand that you like Rameses Deuce and Alex the Great but did you really need to take ten pages to tell us Ozy?! Nope! The proof is in the pudding...or the film.
At damn near 3hrs I felt they got everything in they needed to and then some. Hell, the film maker part of me felt the urge to find places to trim it down which I did but thats neither here nor there. These spots were real minute.

So yes it is a damn good film and faithful rendition of the classic story. Don't moan to me that the squid is gone. For a comic, the squid made sense, in the really real world there ain't now coming back...I mean giant squids look silly. Plus in Hellboy II they kinda already did the squid like thing in NYC. This ending makes more sense and no I will not give it away...go spend your ten bucks and see what I am talking about.

Watchmen hate!

Dearest fanboys,

Hi there! I am comic/genre fan just like you. Like you I have been reading comics for many many moons now. I was with you in your dislike for the original Captain America movie or the Corman Fantastic Four. More recently I have seen comic adaptations like Elektra, both Fantastic Four films, the Punisher and Daredevil and found them lacking. (actually I warmed to the Daredevil directors cut in later years)
There is always a risk when it comes to translating our beloved characters to the big screen. Occasionaly they get it right; Spiderman, X2, Iron Man and we love the film makers for this. Sometimes they go beyond the comic and make extraordinary films like The Dark Knight and Del Toro's Hellboy films.
Please understand that translation from page to screen is a hard thing.

Sorry Mr. H

Its not creative license, its creative construction! Some film makers actually are making these films for love of the material. Yes, I know that many do it for the fame and money...hell I would do it for those as well. But many film makers just want to bring these great stories to new and broader audiences!

So please give the source materials a break. Films like Watchmen, X-Men Origins:Wolverine and hell even the new Star Trek are not gospel or classic literature where slight changes here or there are blasphemy. Enjoy the cinemtaic experience and if you can't live with a little change then don't bother viewing these films. Why put yourself through that torture?

Smooches!

Getting started...

Wow...blogging...who would have thought. I figured that since I have been writing alot recently I might as well put some random thoughts on paper...well, on code. How about a sample Chris? Sure, why the hell not!

Recently hollywood types have announced plans to send remakes of Total recall and The Neverending Story our way. Does anybody else see something wrong here? I know that there are plenty of people out there who have new and brilliant ideas to be made into films. Still, there seems to be this idea in the uper eschelon of hollywood that like remakes and that they are good. More often then not they aren't. Case in point...horror remakes usually suck. They up the gore, drop the story and skim on the acting. Isn't that right Eli Roth? Yeah, I know you haven't remade anything but thats the recipe for all your crap...

So thats a taste of things to come. My mind spills out frequently I just have to organize them and get them on this thing.
